Ford’s midsize pickup – The Eyes of a Ranger

It’s always fun to get a pickup truck. Today I drove the 2020 Ford Ranger Lariat Supercrew 4X4 with a five-foot bed.

The 2020 Ford Ranger is the only midsize pickup in the Ford line-up. Built on a high-strength steel frame the Ranger is powered by a 2.3-liter EcoBoost boasting 270 horsepower and 310 lb.-ft. of torque paired to an efficient 10-speed automatic.

The all-new Ranger is available in either SuperCab or SuperCrew configuration. It can be optioned with 4×2 or 4×4 and comes in three trim levels – XL, XLT, and Lariat. Stylish Black, classic Chrome, and slick Sport are all appearance Packages that are available.

The New Ranger FX2 Package sports tough styling and capability upgrades for two-wheel-drive trucks, including an electronic-locking rear differential, off-road tires, off-road-tuned suspension, front underbody guard, and Ford’s off-road cluster screen.

Technology comes built-in, starting with an 8-inch touch screen for available SYNC 3, while a single or dual LCD productivity screen is available for real-time vehicle, navigation, and audio information. Ranger has standard Pre-Collision Assist with Automatic Emergency Braking. A Lane-Keeping System that includes lane-keeping assist, lane-departure warning, reverse sensing, and class-exclusive Blind Spot Information System with trailer coverage is standard on XLT and Lariat. Adaptive Cruise Control is standard on Lariat.

The Ranger’s muscular body features a high beltline, while a raked grille and windshield lend an athletic appearance and aid in aerodynamics and reduced wind noise. Short overhangs mean better approach and departure angles off-road. The FX4 Off-Road Package features off-road-tuned suspension, all-terrain tires, a frame-mounted steel front bash plate, skid plates, rear locking differential, and innovative Terrain Management System™ with four distinct drive modes and Trail Control.

The Ford Ranger has all the off-road gear, combined with a rugged steel bumper. If you’re thinking of moving out of your house and towing a camper, an integrated trailer hitch is available. The maximum payload is 1,860 pounds, while maximum towing comes in at 7,500 pounds.
