Built-in America for Americans
I’ve been waiting to drive the all-new 5-seater Volkswagen Atlas Cross Sport ever since I went to the unveiling of the Cross sport in Chattanooga, TN. As the SUV market continues to heat up, Volkswagen is bringing out a midsize SUV.
Scott Keogh, President & CEO, Volkswagen of America, introduced the 2020 Volkswagen Atlas Cross Sport at a press conference, “As crossover demands increase and are seen as the future, the Atlas Cross Sport is the newest model rolling out of VW Chattanooga, joining the Atlas sport-utility vehicle.”
What is the difference between VW Atlas and Atlas Cross Sport?
The 3-row Volkswagen Atlas is geared for families with children. The Volkswagen Atlas Cross Sport is a smaller crossover SUV. … The Atlas has more cargo space at 96.8 cubic feet, while the Atlas Cross Sport has 77.8 cubic feet. The Atlas at 21/24/22
2.0-liter 4-cylinder
Both the Atlas and the Atlas Cross Sport come standard with a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder that produces 235 horsepower and 258 pound-feet of torque mated to an eight-speed automatic transmission. Towing is 2,000 pounds. The EPA-estimated numbers for the 4-cylinder are 18 city/23 highway/20 combined on the front-wheel-drive.
3.6-liter V-6 engine
There is an optional engine available. It is a 3.6-liter V6 that offers 276 horsepower and 266 pound-feet of torque. Towing is 5,000 pounds. Both the Atlas and Atlas Cross Sport V6 get EPA-estimated numbers respectively of 17 city/23 highway /19 combined(FWD) and 16 city/22 highway/19 combined(AWD).
Safety
Safety abounds in the Cross Sport. Available for the first time on a U.S. Volkswagen model, Traffic jam assist (TJA) works in conjunction with adaptive cruise control and lane-keep assist. When all of those systems are activated, the TJA will turn on automatically to steer, accelerate, and brake the vehicle up to 60 km, or 37 mph.
A cool feature is Volkswagen’s Intelligent Crash Response System that shuts off the fuel pump, unlocks the doors, and switches on the hazard lights if the car is involved in certain types of collisions.
Volkswagen’s sales have been increasing steadily with the advent of new SUVs in its portfolio. If you liked the Atlas but didn’t the 3rd-row, you’ll love everything the Atlas Cross Sport has to offer.
