2021 Ford F150 Pro Power 7.2 kW hybrid

I love the ford f150 hybrid with 7.2 kW pro power onboard. Do you know how well they are selling? I asked Michael Levine, Ford Product Communications. “They are selling better than expected. People recognize the value of the generator,” he replied. He is right.

People used to buy these accessories for “just in case,” but a pro power onboard is no longer for just in case. It is part of life and a smart buy. In California, two fires are burning. Together they are closing in on one million acres burned. The east coast is bracing for another hurricane.
Catastrophes create havoc, including loss of electricity.

What is Ford Pro-power onboard?

I drove a Ford F150 Supercrew recently, but not with the pro power. The pro power onboard is a 7.2 kW integrated power generator with enough energy to power 28 average refrigerators, charge a bed full of electric dirt bikes or run an entire job site worth of tools.

Power is accessible through in-cabin outlets and up to four cargo bed-mounted 120-volt 20-amp outlets, with a 240-volt 30-amp outlet on the 7.2-kilowatt version. The system even provides power on the move to charge tool batteries in between jobs.

This F150 gets about 25 miles to the gallon, has an amazing towing capacity, a built-in business center, and enough power to frame a house. This is a truck that is built for any just in case you can think of in terms of disaster.

Ford F-150 engines

The 2021 F-150 offers six powertrains: A 3.3-liter V-6, a twin-turbo 2.7-liter EcoBoost V-6, a twin-turbo 3.5-liter EcoBoost V-6, a gasoline-electric hybrid based on the 3.5-liter six (called PowerBoost), a turbo-diesel 3.0-liter V-6, and finally a traditional 5.0-liter V-8.

The Ford F-150 I drove has the all-new 3.5-liter PowerBoost full hybrid V6 powertrain and is the most powerful in its class. The hybrid V-6 delivers the most torque and horsepower of any light-duty full-size pickup. The Ford F-150 is the only light-duty full-size pickup to offer a full hybrid.

The power boost system adds instant electric torque to Ford’s 3.5-liter EcoBoost V6. It is available on every trim level from F-150 XL to the Limited. Ford expects an EPA-estimated range of approximately 700 miles on a single tank of gas and will deliver a maximum of 12,000 pounds of towing.

The most functional F-150 ever

The all-new F-150 takes functionality and productivity to the next level. Ford creates the anywhere office with the new optional Interior Work Surface. The workspace is worth the extra pennies to be able to work on a 15-inch laptop or enjoy a meal when parked.

It is available in both bench and captain’s chair seating configurations on XL to Limited. Ford has created a stowable console shifter for F-150, which easily folds into the center console with the push of a button and allows full access to the large work surface when in park.

Is the new F-150 A plug-in hybrid?

No, the F150 is not a plug-in. The new F-150 hybrid will come equipped with the all-new 3.5L PowerBoost full hybrid engine. Ford says the new F-150 PowerBoost hybrid engine boasts a total of 430 horsepower and achieves a driving range of 700 miles on a full tank of gas.

PowerBoost combines Ford’s proven EcoBoost engine and 10-speed SelectShift automatic transmission with a 35-kilowatt (47-horsepower) electric motor integrated into the transmission. The software is calibrated specially for truck use, including drive modes like tow/haul mode to better help customers manage heavy trailers.

The electric motor applies regenerative braking energy capture to help recharge the 1.5- kilowatt-hour lithium-ion battery. The battery is efficiently packaged underneath the truck, leaving the cab and cargo box of PowerBoost F-150 as spacious for passengers and cargo as other comparably equipped F-150 models. The system is capable of sustained battery usage at extreme outside temperatures or under heavy loads.

Does the F150 Hybrid qualify for a tax credit?

Check with your accountant, but according to the U.S. Department of Energy, you’re eligible to receive a tax credit of up to $7,500 for each hybrid vehicle you buy, depending on the vehicle.
