Bentley EXP 10 Speed 6 at NYIAS

Bentley and the New York auto show

Luc Donckerwolke, Director of Design, unveiled the Bentley EXP 10 Speed 6 at a party during the New York auto show days.

Donckerwolke has been the Bentley Motors Director of Design since 2012. His work at Lamborghini includes the Murcielago and Gallardo.

The party was low-key with most journalists sipping some fine wine while ogling every bit of the EXP 10. Bentley invited people to explore the type of car that would truly suit them. You were given what looked like a hotel room key and it was inserted in a host computer that started showing you pictures. It was like an eye exam in a way, you had the choice of two pictures you liked better and you picked that picture. While sitting in a plush chair you were shown all the pictures you picked circling in a globe and the pictures finally came down to 4 colors.

At the designer table, you and the designer decided which color was the exterior, which was the interior, the second interior, and the trim stitching color.

I would not have picked blue as my exterior color. I have never purchased a blue car, but once it was all put together I felt like the car belonged to me.

It was a way of showing what happens inside the process of designing a bespoke car for a person.

A Naim assistant, the music system used in Bentleys was there to showcase the audio system Bentley uses and to show a couple of new home devices it has produced.

Here is Luc Donckerwolke, Director of Design, talking about the design of the Bentley EXP 10 Speed 6.
