BMW X5 plug-in hybrid prototype on Driving the Nation

Gerhard Thiele, project leader for BMWs X5 plug-in hybrid talked to Lou Ann Hammond, CEO, Driving the Nation about the new X5 plug-in hybrid crossover. BMW has the i8 plug-in hybrid in production and they will be bringing out the X5 plug-in hybrid soon. The car we are in is a prototype.

Eighty percent of the people who drive, drive less than 20 miles per day. Using electricity for the first 20 miles instead of gasoline would cut emissions.

Will the BMW X5 plug-in stay in electric till all the electricity is used or does it switch back and forth depending on driving topography and dynamics?
