Dr. Leopold Mikulic, VP, Powertrain, Mercedes-Benz on Driving the Nation

Dr. Leopold Mikulic, Vice President, Powertrain, Mercedes-Benz Development takes me on a tour of Mercedes’ bluetec, adblue clean diesel.

The Mercedes-Benz E320 CDI bluetec is the first diesel under 5,800 pounds allowed in all fifty states in years. California has virtually banned diesels under 5,800 pounds with their strict regulations concerning diesel.

Now that the United States has clean diesel (down from 500 ppm of sulfur to 15ppm of sulfur) automobile manufacturers are able to bring out the advanced technology that meet the all 50 state requirement.

Diesel has great low-end torque, and gets about 25 percent more miles per gallon, which means less CO2 per gallon of gasoline.
