Honda sales and safety with John Mendel on Driving the Nation

John W. Mendel is executive vice president of American Honda Motor Co., Inc., heading up both Honda and Acura Automobile Sales Divisions. Mendel talked to Lou Ann Hammond, CEO, www.drivingthenation.com about Honda’s sales and safety.

Honda was up 11.4% January-August, 2013. They were down in September. What was the reason?

Which months are the best months for sales for autos?

Honda has as standard on 96% of their vehicles backup cameras and/or sensors, even though it is not required by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA). They also have a technology called lane watch that allows you to see the lanes to the right of you, in the NAV system, when you put your right blinker on.

I liked Mendel’s answer when I asked him why Honda spent so much time and money on safety that wasn’t required.

Thanks for the interview John. We were both sick, but you were a trooper.
