Wells talked to Lou Ann Hammond, about Iran and whether they are trying to make a bomb or create nuclear energy.
Wells told me that Iran had given up on nuclear power until the ’90s when Iran resurrected the nuclear program because they saw Iraq as a threat.
Things went quiet for a period of time, but around 2003 Iran gained nuclear centrifuge technology from Dr. Abdul Qadeer Khan of Pakistan. Khan is known as the father of the Islamic bomb. Wells talked about the fact that Iran had signed a non-proliferation treaty (NPT). At that time, Wells believes, Iran was only interested in Nuclear energy, not for a bomb. Wells noted that Israel is not a signatory of the NPT, even though they do have nuclear weapons.
Wells walked me through some of the history: After Iraq and Afghanistan were invaded Iran wanted the threat of nuclear power. Iran thought Nuclear Power would give the regime more stability. Wells does believe there is a secret program for weaponization in Iran.
What can be done about it? Wells says not much. Military intervention would interrupt the oil supply.
Are we going to have to live with a nuclear Iran? “Yes, we probably are.”
Should the United States recycle their used uranium? See what Wells has to say.
