Larry Dominique, Nissan, at the 2011 New York auto show on Driving the Nation

Larry Dominique, Nissan, is Vice President of Product Planning for the Americas. Dominique talked to Lou Ann Hammond, CEO, www.drivingthenation.com, at the 2011 New York auto show.

Dominique just got back from South America. In Brazil Nissan had less than 1 percent of the market. By the end of April they had 2 percent of the market and Dominique says they will continue to grow. Are Nissan’s cars flex-fuel in South America?

How are Nissan Leafs selling? Dominique said that the full order of 20,000 had been met for 2011. I asked David P. Reuterm Vice President, Corporate Communications, Nissan Americas how many Leafs had been delivered.

Reuters sent me an email saying, “We have received 20,000 RESERVATIONS for Nissan LEAF here in the U.S. This means 20k individuals have put down a refundable $99 deposit to reserve their place in line to ORDER a Nissan LEAF when one becomes available in their area.”

“We delivered 573 LEAFs in May bringing our cumulative deliveries since launch to 1,044. As we said at NY show, from this month we expect our deliveries to accelerate considerably due to greater car production. ”

Dominique took it one step further and told me that by the end of 2012 they will be building the Nissan Leaf in Smyra, TN.
