Polk’s view of Europe 2013 Geneva auto show

In January 2013, at the Detroit auto show, I interviewed Anthony Pratt, Director of Forecasting, Polk of America. I asked Pratt about Europe, what Polk was forecasting for 2013 and beyond for Western, Eastern and Central Europe.

Polk has a downside scenario and an upside scenario. Would Germany going into a recession be in the downside scenario, or is that more of a possibility than most people realize? Western Europe saw a decrease in sales of 8.5% in 2012. How bad was Germany?

What year does Polk forecast that Europe will see the pre-recession numbers of 18 million vehicles sold annually?

What are some of the differences between North America’s recession and Europe’s recession?

Which car companies are doing well in Europe, which car companies are not doing as well? Pratt talks about Volkswagen, BMW, Renault, Nissan, Fiat, Ford, and Opel.
