Prancing Ponies Women in Business and Cars

Monterey Car Week

Chanterria McGilbra is the first African American woman to purchase a Ferrari in Northern California. After she purchased the car, she became aware that with such a special car, comes attention. McGilbra is a private person and became embarrassed at all the attention the Ferrari brought the biotech industry female. Until one day, when she was driving by three little girls and stopped in front of them. One of the little girls said to her, Ma’am. I like your car. McGilbra was inspired and told the girl, and you can get one of these someday too. The young girl’s face changed as she took in the depth of what McGilbra said, and McGilbra knew why she had purchased the Ferrari.

Prancing Ponies Foundation 501(c)3 mission is ‘Creating Women Leaders One Girl at a Time. “We accomplish this goal by teaching girls fundamental skills that are currently not offered in the standard educational curriculum. These skills are vital for advancing and succeeding in leadership roles in college and later in their careers in engineering or the automotive industry.”

What is Prancing Ponies Academy?

The Prancing Ponies Leadership Academy accepts up to 10 girls each summer for six weeks to learn life and leadership skills. The Academy accepts applications from girls who are in their 3rd year STEM or other selected majors in the US. The Academy focuses on five fundamental areas of leadership instruction:

*Presentation skills: Creating & giving presentations. Self-brand management. Social media presence.

*Financial: Managing a budget and a P & L statement. Salary negotiation.

*Conflict Management: Using your intuition as a decision-making tool and managing inter-office dynamics.

*Mentoring: Individualizing their learning experience and providing guidance for optimal information integration.

The scholar’s first-year activity is an intensive Academy and Internship at Prancing Ponies Foundation during the summer. After graduation, the scholar then has to fulfill requirements to mentor a Prancing Ponies scholar that is a year younger than her and attend events throughout the year. We support the scholar with post-graduation company placement and working with the company to ensure the scholar receives management/leadership training as quickly as possible after hire. Mentoring continues indefinitely.

Prancing Ponies Rally is the first all-Women Ferrari Rally in the World. The Rally and Car Show are the primary FUN-draising events for the Prancing Ponies Foundation’s Leadership Academies. We are an international sisterhood of drivers and car enthusiasts that support the next generation of Women Leaders. The rally is an annual event that moves to a different country every year. Our first year was San Francisco to Santa Barbara; this year was Milan to Monaco. We are proud to announce that we had a successful second All Woman Car Show in Carmel-by-the-Sea, CA. All funds raised support programs to ‘Create Women Leaders One Girl at a Time’!
