Volkswagen’s Vice President of Product Marketing & Strategy, Ranier Michel, talked to Lou Ann Hammond, CEO, www.drivingthenation.com, about the Volkswagen Jetta hybrid and all things electric.
Michel says the hybrid will attract customers that aren’t as interested in a diesel vehicle but still wants a fuel-efficient Jetta.
The Volkswagen Jetta Hybrid is the first hybrid that has a seven-speed dual-clutch and the first turbocharged direct-injection engine.
The e-motor is different in the Jetta hybrid than the Audi Q5 or VW Touareg hybrid. How?
By 2014 there will be a Volkswagen e-Golf.
When will we see the first plug-in electric vehicle come to the market? Michel says that with the Volkswagen Group MQB platform it is the company’s strategy to make that platform a shared technology. With its transversal components that have come out in the Golf, the platform will allow other technologies to be shared, such as the plug-in electric vehicle.
