Real Wheels car chat on Washington Post December 11, 2015

Good Morning Warren and Friends,

Is everyone getting ready for the Holidays? Does that include changing tires, getting new windshield wipers, a new snow blade for scrapping snow, some sand/kitty litter in the trunk in case you get stuck?

Stretch has been sick with the flu this week, and it reminded me to keep hydrated. You might want to put a couple of bottles of water in the trunk in case you do get stuck. Hydration is the key. People think because it’s cold they don’t need to drink as much, but it is key.

I drove the 2015 Mercedes-Benz G550 SUV 5.5-liter, 382 horsepower, 391 torque. Out the door, it cost $118,275. EPA fuel economy was 12 city/15 highway.

Did you know the 2015 Mercedes-Benz G550 SUV has a towing capacity of 7,000 pounds? Neither did I till we borrowed Stewart’s wood splitter. Stewart and Mary Ann own Nyack gas station, the gas station at Emigrant Pass. Stretch drove up there in our neighbor, Sheri’s 12-year old Dodge Ram 1500 to pick up the splitter, but her transmission needs some work so he wouldn’t take it back up to Stewart. All of a sudden this behemoth of an SUV shows up in our driveway with all kinds of transfer cases and differential locks, and we’re golden. I knew it could handle it, but I did laugh at the thought of a Mercedes towing a wood splitter.

The things you have to do to get ready for the winter.

One last scene of winter before the gelandewagen left us, Bucky strolling through the yard, eating the acorns. It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas.
