Volvo’s Inscription and V60 unveiled at NYautoshow

New York International Auto Show (NYIAS)

The New York International Auto Show will show-off two more vehicles; the Volvo V60 station wagon and a luxury trim of the XC40 compact SUV named Inscription.

2019 Volvo XC40 Inscription

Last year I drove the 2019 Volvo XC 40 T5 R-Design in Barcelona, Spain. This year another luxury trim level, the Inscription has sailed over to the Big Apple. The compact SUV will bring its station wagon sibling, the V60, with it.

Volvo has systematically brought forth a new SUV over the past three years, and each year the SUV segment has grown in sales and profitability.

At the press conference we will be given the detail of the Inscription trim level but what we can surmise is that the Inscription trim will have the same safety, connectivity, and infotainment technologies as the other XC40 SUV trim levels and some of the luxury of the XC60 and Volvo XC90. Volvo is known for safety and driver assistance features that include Volvo Cars’ Pilot Assist system, City Safety, Run-off-Road protection, and mitigation. Cross Traffic Alert with brake support and Volvo’s 360 Degree Camera helps drivers become alert to oncoming traffic and maneuver into tight parking spaces.

One of the most talked-about parts of the 2018 Volvo XC40 is the functional interior design that provides fun and functional storage space in the doors and under the driver’s seat. There is even a special space for smartphones, a fold-out hook for small bags, a removable trash bin in the center console, and a place for wireless charging.

2019 Volvo V60 station wagon

When you think of station wagons, there are a handful of carmakers that you think of, and Volvo is one of those carmakers.

The 2019 V60 will share Volvo Cars’ Scalable Product Architecture (SPA) platform with the 2018 Volvo XC60 SUV that won the 2018 North American Utility of the Year and four top-of-the-line 90 Series cars. The 90-Series vehicles have been the products behind Volvo’s record-breaking global sales performance for years.

In a first for the segment, customers can access the new V60 via Volvo Cars’ new premium subscription service Care by Volvo, which offers ownership via a monthly flat-fee subscription. Care by Volvo includes payment, insurance, etc.

The 2019 V60 will be available in the United States with a T5 Front-Wheel-Drive Drive-E powertrain with 250HP, and a T6 All-Wheel-Drive Drive-E powertrain with 316 horsepower. Both will have 8-speed automatic transmission.

It has not been announced yet, but I would expect to see Apple Carplay on both the new XC40 Inscription and the new V60.
